Fiesta Open results
Jim Rohrbaugh of Kerrville won the Fiesta Open with 3.5 points in the four-round event, winning $200. Tied for second with 3 were Selby Anderson, John Patty, Larry Moss (Houston) and Don Sutherland, each winning $25. Three players tied for the U2100 prize: William Molina (Austin), Dale Dike and Martin Gordon, each with 2.5 and winning $25. Brian Smith also scored 2.5 to win the U1900 prize of $75.
In the Reserve section, Luis Castro from Kimball, Michigan was clear first with 4.0, winning $125. Scott Slade from Round Rock came in second with 3. to win $75. Ebrahim Montazeri, playing in his first tournament, also scored 3.5 to win the U1300/unrated prize, $75. Raul Flores and Joe Chapa tied for the U1500 prize with 3.0, each winning $37.50.
There was a drawing for three one-year memberships in the World Chess Network, an online chess server. The winners were Guillermo Medina, Toshio Imai and Jim Ollerton. All partiticpants who supplied e-mail addresses won one-month trial memberships.
