99th Bombardment Squadron (Heavy)
November
Activated as the 99th Observation Squadron (later 9th Bombardment Group) on November 9, 1928, the 99th Observation Squadron. was attached to the 9th Observation Group on November 9, 1928, and assigned February 15, 1929, with duty station at Mitchel Field, NY. The 99th Observation Squadron was redesignated the 99th Bombardment Squadron on March 1, 1935, 99th Bombardment Squadron (Medium) on December 6, 1939, and the 99th Bombardment Squadron (Heavy) on November 20, 1940.
The 99th Bombardment Squadron departed Mitchel Field, NY, with the 9th Bomb. Group on November 6, 1940, arrived in Panama on November 13, 1940, and was stationed at Rio Hato, Panama.
December 1941
The 99th Bombardment Squadron was stationed at Zandrey Field, Surinam, December 3, 1941. Upon the beginning of hostilities, the 59th undertook the duties of anti-submarine operations and convoy patrol, at which task it was engaged under unfavorable conditions and with limited facilities.
September 1942
The 99th remained at Zandrey Field until September 29, 1942 when the 9th Bombardment Group, less its personnel and equipment, was transferred to Orlando, Florida. The personnel left in Trinidad by the 9th Bombardment Group was absorbed by the 25th Bombardment Group
